My dad is due to refit his kitchen and needs to install some new sockets and a couple of drops down the wall. The electrician said "£600, or £400 if you do the channeling yourself."

Being a tightwad, he wants to borrow my SDS drill, buy a channeling bit from Screwfix and do it himself

My question is - what size and depth channel will be required? And does the cable need to be in a conduit (and if so, steel or plastic?)

I'm surprised the electrician didn't tell him how deep or wide!

Guessing he's using the 'galvanised steel capping' method, as I call it then you'll be needing chases around 45mm wide by 20mm deep (below finished plaster surface).
