Would have to big a bit more than that to blow through the conifers hence the reason for building the panel first. I will however be able to, if necessary lean the complete panel against the hedge whilst I get stuff in position but will obviously try and avoid this
If you cut a conifer back to 'old growth' ie twiggy bits with no fresh green on them then it will never grow in that spot again.
Need to be careful when cutting one that you want to keep to ensure you don't do this, but in your case I think that's what you'd want.
