We have foolishly fitted a cat flap in the fire door between the house and garage, now moving and buyers have mortgage retention till we replace. I still have the piece of door can this bit be safely refitted ?

I guess you could stick the old bit back in place, and then make good with filler and paint but the fire resistace would be compromised to a certain extent.......there again, who's to know?
If it was mine I'd bite the bullet and get a new door fitted - much quicker in the long run, because once your new buyer had spotted any repair it would make them nervous.
John :)

as john has said you have compromised the fire door by cutting into it,for future reference the supplers of fire doors normally stipulate that a maximum of 3-4 mm can be removed for fitting purposes, any other type of cutting has to be done by them.
get a new door, the time it will take you to try to do a invisible repair and repaint would probably be the same as fitting a new 1.
