Hi there,

Just a quick question to you guys before i call in the experts,

I have a burner in what i believe is a BENTONE ST108 burner that won't fire up and was wondering if anyone could me any pointers in what it might be.

1. Last night i noticed that rads had cooled but heating timer was still on,odd i thought.
2.Went out and checked burner,not working,odd i thought again.
3.Turned up internal thermostats up,nothing
4.Turned up water theromstat at burner/boiler and it fired up again but then stopped.
5.Tried it today after work and same thing, fired up for a while and then quit, although today the rads did not get warm at all.

So,heres my thinking and just wondered if anyone is thinking the same :

I believe that the fault may lie within the circulating pump not pumping the hot water back into the rads, this then sets off the water thermostat (little grey box) at the boiler/burner as it senses the water is too hot around the water jacket at the boiler and tells the burner to switch off.

Firstly i thought it was "no oil" but there is no lockout light at the burner itself ?

Any ideas on this guys................it's getting cold !!!!

You could well be right there. I would firstly check to see if your circulating pump is working when the heating / water is calling. You can do this by removing the screw in the centre of the pump housing, catching any water that drips out. You should see the end of the shaft turning. If it isn't, you can sometimes free it by using a flat head screwdriver to turn the shaft (there is normally a slot in the end to do this, dependent on the make of pump.) If the shaft feels free, then it could be a faulty capacitor, or the pump motor is shot. If all seems fine, then it may be an airlock in the pump, which by undoing the screw in the pump, you may have released. If there was air in the pump, you will hear a quick 'whoosh' of air released.

If your system is sealed, you may need to top it up to its original pressure. If your system is open vented, then there shouldn't be an issue. Check all your rads as well to see if they need bleeding to, and any other air valves that you may see on your system :)

Thanks,

changed the pump and now all is well..........bit of a "*******s" lol,to change though, bottom nut on the pump was well jammed.......but got it loosened with some brute force and ingnorance, lol
