I have just built an extension on the side of my house and my old outside wall is now in the middle of my house inside.

Is it acceptable to run a cable up the wall and take the wire through the 2 courses and cavity (of what WAS an outside wall, but is now on the inside) and into the back of an electic socket box the other side in one of the original rooms. Would also like to run my new rings into the back of the consumer unit through the same wall in the same manner.

Thanks for the advice

I dont see why not if its Twin and earth your using, Just remember to use Grommets if they are the metal " knock out " type and earth the box too

Running in/out of the back of a box is fine - that's why they have 20mm knockouts on the back.

But what are you doing with this cable? You mention you're intending on installing ring finals in there, so what's this (presumably) spur for? How are you going to fuse the spur?

There is a new ring being run in the new extension and I would like to add one socket to the existing bedroom and this can simply be done by pushing the ring through the wall to facilitate the socket, so no it wont be a spur.

Many thanks for all your advice

the cable running down the wall must tho be in a zone where you would expect to find a cable or be in the line of an accessory, just so that someone in the future doesnt drill it

i'd also be tempted to use conduit in case that wall gets filled with nasy polystyrene later as part of a whole house cavity wall insulation job and to make replacing the cable easier should it ever be needed..

also note the fact that unless you do something like put a socket on the side that is in the existing house the cable will not be in the zones (and therefore will need to be in either metal conduit, have an inbuilt metal layer or be burried ridiculously deep).
