Hi All
Just about to repair a small section of a roof that when measured will need double size tiles (600x600) cut down to a standard tile and a half size (450x600) so they finish in line with the end of the house and the other tiles.

My question is, is it ok to leave an exposed cut edge of the tile when I score and snap it longways to reduce its overall width. The tiles im using are the fibre cement type (300x600 standard)

It is in a location where the aesthetic isnt hugely important and im sure after a few years the grime will make it blend in - just dont want it swelling if not meant to be exposed like this.

All the guides say don't have the cut edge exposed- so make your cut so the cut edge butts up to its neighbour rather than being the end slate exposed to full weather force.
Hope that makes sense- another way to put it, if your slate and a half is at the left-hand end of the run, make the cut on the right-hand side of the double.
Bet you're mending it cos the original roofers used half slates at the ends :)

Yeah, didn't mean butt hard up (as you say rivet space) but if you can, give cut edge a neighbour :)
