Hey,
My first time on here so be gentle! I have a sliding door that separates my kitchen and living room. I hate white painted wood and want to remove the paint and instead treat the wood with a varnish or something of the sort. I want to make sure the wood underneath is suitable for this
If anyone could advise would appreciate it :)

The only way to find out if the wood underneath is in a suitable condition is to remove all the paint. Then you can see what sort of state it's in. Does look like pine underneath tho, which will stain/varnish ok. Be prepared for a long, laborious task removing all the paint!

Oh, and a lot of the paint removers now are pretty useless. Lots of sandpaper needed!

That paint looks extremely thick. You'd need a heat gun to get the worst off then a quarter sheet sander. Not worth the effort. Orange pine looks naff anyway.
