Just bought a nice Grohe basin monobloc tap (Eurostyle). For some strange reason it comes with 2 chromed copper 10 mm tails (not flexi) for hot and cold, that are about a foot long. The tails cannot be unscrewed.

I need to cut these shorter, and join the 15mm pipes to them with an elbow. Where can I buy the 15 x 10mm elbow from - have tried B&Q, Wickes, Toolstation, Screwfix?

Why has the tap got these type of tails, they don't seem suited to British plumbing?

It is to give you a pleasantly gentle flow of water through the tap, to reduce splashing and save water by preventing any forceful supply.

OP, don't worry about Bingo. He's incapable (probably through drink!) of saying anything useful or giving advice that's worth having.

Insulting people gives him his kicks. Don't encourage him.

I was told that continental taps use 10mm because most hot and cold water supplies on the continent are pumped, so they do not need the 15 or 22mm pipe sizes used in the UK.

Most of Europe and the rest of the world use higher pressure mains water.

In the UK we had one of the first piped water systems and they have not been updated and in London there are still Victorian cast irom pipes which regularly burst and leak.

Leakage is controlled ( reduced ) by reducing the supply pressure.

In addition the traditional Brittish system was to have low pressure from stored water in loft tanks.

Few continental taps give an adequate flow rate on a loft tank system.
