Hi, apologies if this is a stupid question, or if it's been asked elsewhere - I did check but couldn't see anything.

We've just moved into a new house (1979) with a potterton kingfisher boiler and a british gas single control boiler panel. This is frustrating as it appears that to heat hot water we have to have the heating on or turn down the room thermostat. Is there any way that we can switch the control to be a dual control to heat the hot water and central heating separately or is it not as simple as that? We have a storage tank in the airing cupboard and a couple of tanks in the roof (if that makes any difference!).

Any help much appreciated!

Matt

It probably is not that simple. You may well have gravity hot water.

If so then it would need a fair amount of work to convert to fully pumped. I used to quote about £240 for that.

But if you have just moved in then surely you want to have it serviced so that you know its working safely and efficiently? Then you could ask the engineer what is involved.

Yes it can. Even if it's gravity you can still have a dual channel timer for "hot water only" or "both" (can't have heating on without heating the water).

Thanks Tony - sensible advice. We should be having a service booked in sometime soon.
