Wear a pair of rubber/silicone kitchen gloves to get a good grip and, as @Madrab says, it should only be hand tight.

Gloves will give you a better grip and therefore more turning power. Remember if you're looking from above you need to turn clockwise. Supporting the u bend from below might loosen the tightness on the thread.

Not budging at all, I've taken the top drawer out so I can get closer

I've managed to break the plastic outlet , so will need a new one. I'm assuming the sink should just lift up now

I will get a new waste now from home based and then try to put back together, quite alot of crap in the waste pipe to be honest

Good opportunity to clear out the sludge that inevitably builds up

Shouldn't be plastic, the waste will have been brass. For the future, don't use chemicals/bleach to clean the basin, it will just strip the chrome off again. Chrome plating these days is thin crap and any chemicals will just eat it in no time, soap and water is all that should be used.

That and flush a pot full of boiling water with bicarb/vinegar down the waste every month to flush it clean.
