I’ve just about run out of time with the good weather to paint my bay window. I’ve stripped it back cut out and filled any rot. Covered with aluminium primer and have got the first coat of undercoat.

Will this last till the spring or am I ok to paint when the weather is good as the existing finish protects the wood underneath

I did this with a bench, the undercoat took on a really matt appearance after a few months this summer. I put the top coats on sharpish after that.

Get some Zinsser allcoat exterior (water based), comes in satin or gloss, brilliant stuff, dries in half hour, re-coatable in one hour, so if you get a dry few hours you can get it done and this stuff is very durable and sticks to anything.

I’ve bought quite a few Zinnser products, Cover plus, 1 2 3 and the interior kitchen paint and I’ve been unimpressed. I started with the Cover plus when I’d stripped the windows and then a coat of grey undercoat and before I could get a top coat on the paint had already started to bubble and flake off right down to the bare wood. Stripped it all off and covered with aluminium primer and that has been perfect after about 8 weeks waiting for the sashes to be fitted.

Do you mean cover stain? coverplus (covaplus) is a Johnstone's paint. I've used Zinsser products professionally for years and never had a problem.
