Can we felt for now, then slate later?

Hi all,
Apologies for yet another roofing question, we're having a bit of a nightmare.
2 story side extension, new hipped roof to existing hipped roof - raised tie construction.
Roof trusses are in, we know what we are doing with facias, insulation and cavity closers (thanks all).
We have had a couple of quotes for stripping existing roof, felting all and reslating, although actually we've stripped up to the hip ourselves for access to existing roof and for weatherproofing with visqueen.

There are a number of jobs we need to do before we can proceed with slating - trim rafter ends, friction fit insulation between rafters, put valley boards in, put 'fillets'? on rafter ends to bring eaves level up to that of existing and neighbours roofs (rooves?). Husband doing all this and a fine job he's doing too.
When this is all done we will be able to crack on, however, we need to do roof connected stuff as we are going along and can't really do it all at the same time:
1. When the existing roof is stripped, we want to insulate between rafters to ceiling slopes where there is none currently - we get awful mildew from condensation/cold spots on ceiling slopes. Roofer has suggested they can strip one side, then we can insulate that before felting while they strip the other side, then swap over. Could be do-able?
2. We are fitting a ventilation system to bathrooms (MEV?) that will vent through the roof but can't fit it yet really - no bathroom or ceiling to fit it to, not watertight and don't fancy 70 years worth of mortar in it.
3. We are having a replacement boiler which has a vertical flue from airing cupboard up through roof - new boiler, new flue, new terminal. Can't fit it yet as gas supply is not sorted and new rads not in yet.
4. Gas supply pipe currently runs up side of (existing) house inside the extension, pops through under eaves and runs across loft space into airing cupboard. Had meter moved but couldn't resite pipes as walls/rooms moving and weren't/aren't sure where best to run it inside.

Anyway, I digress. My question is, is it feasible to strip the slate and felt the roof with membrane ready for slating, but allowing us access to get all this done, with a view to slating when boiler/pipes/MEV/insulation sorted. We were thinking we could use the good felt up the top end to keep on in the long term, but use cheap for the bottom end so we could keep lifting it and tacking back down, without wrecking the good stuff. At least then we would be weathertight and would be able to crack on with the inside of the extension and the many other refurb jobs.
Also the roofer is busy when it's dry due to awful summer weather, so at least we could get a couple of days off him to strip the roof and felt but not need to have him under pressure to get the lot done in one go.
Opinions, thoughts, ideas anyone?
Your input would be very gratefully received.
Many thanks
Kirsten

Sheets on sheets off sheets on sheets off sheets on sheets off well you get the idea, raining not raining and all that stress the choice is yours, or get the scaffolder to make a temp roof for you while you work with a lot less agro than sheets on sheets of caper trust me it will get painfull not to mention time consuming.

thanks catlad. we did ask about that but they reckoned £500 and also said it wouldnt be completely waterproof where the plastic joins. Felt would be less than £100 even if we scrap it all after.
I was thinking we would only need to flap the felt up round the eaves and cut out for flue/vent and could just staple it back down. Is that not how it works though?
Thanks for replying
Kirsten
