Can you fit a timer to a shower pump?

With the greatest of respect for BAS's suggestion, why not just make up a by-pass for the pump and install a NRV, the water wil take the easiest route and almost rule out a potential failure of a motorised valve if you fit a timer.
They are used a lot in CH systems - are they unreliable?

But your idea would be cheaper. Would it work OK when the pump was running? The NRV would stop any back-pressure problems, but would you still get some flow bypassing the pump?

If flow is bypassing the pump then the pump wasn't doing anything useful in the first place, the whole point of a pump is that the output presure is higher than the input presure.

Think of resistors in parallel - it doesn't matter what the relative values are, current always flows through both...

Morning BAS

NRV's are normally closed, assisted in that by a very light spring, if there is a small flow through the pump all the better (in its unpowered state).
Cost wold be more economic.
It may be worth checking the flow/supply up to the pump.

Interesting to know the case for the pump in the first place, poor mains pressure, header tank not high enough ??

Or do you fancy one of these in your back garden...
