Hi,

So we just painted our fence and decking with cuprinol Ducksback paint, wife loved the colour and painted away, I thought it was more a stain than a paint, but it seems to be some kind of wax paint.

Its perfect on the fence but doesnt seem to be very good on the decking, not lasting long on the high traffic areas.

My wife was told to just paint yacht varnish over this, so she has repainted the decking with more Ducksback paint, to get a solid colour again and was about to put the varnish over it and I thought it best to ask first, as I dont want to make a bad job even worse.

I tired googling and it seems Yacht varnish is used over paint, but is it used over this kind of paint?

Can't see any issue with this.

Was the decking ever painted/stained with anything BEFORE the Ducksback?

No, it was bare wood, its only just been painted with the ducksback to match the fence, pictures on the wickes website had other customers using it on decking, so we thought it would be fine, but seems a little easy to wear off on the high traffic areas.

I was just worried if the ducks back has a kind of wax in it, it would stop the varnish from sticking, since its just been painted to get the nice deep colour.
