Hi. I want to put an emersion heater in my hot water tank to tide us over until the oil boiler can be fitted. The trouble is, I cant unscrew the opening at the top. Brut force has not worked - any suggestions? Thanks.

With the tank already hot play a powerful blowtorch on the outside of the tank boss and see if that helps.
If not then drain the tank JUST below that level and repeat but you may distort the tank.
If you have a good spanner then try turning it into an impact wrench by repeatedly hitting the end , not too hard but in quick succession. Better with one person holding the spanner and applying a lot of torque and another hitting the end to create the impact to be added to the fixed torque.
Doing anything may damage the tank!
