i have removed some old plastic vents. I am putting some new (9x6) vent. Despite me using a 9x6 vent it now doesn't screw in. I presume because of a slight extra opening on internal skin.

What should I do to screw it in?

I could even block it out? But my windows are not vented? Is this advised?

mark the screwholes on the wall with a pencil. then show us where they are.

It's an irregular hole not a pedantic one - OP, block the whole thing off. fill the holes in the outside brick with silicone from the inside then block the inner wall and plaster over. IF you need some ventilation then your plastic windows will have a position slightly open where it can be locked by the handle. Air Bricks are from 1950's (council ) houses - bloody freezing. ;)

Eh?

It has been mentioned about blocking the airbrick as it's a 1950 think where they had had and coal fire. Having said that why do recent extensions still have air vents

But the house is from 1950 too, not just the air brick. So nothing has changed.

Also do you need it for gas regs compliance?

Well, the method of heating has changed at least! Hopefully now has radiators on a balanced floor boiler.
