I'm trying to help a skint young family sort their flat out. Unfortunately, I am REALLY crap at plumbing... the buttons are missing from the push-button flush of their toilet, so I want to replace it, but the lid won't lift off the cistern. Sorry no pic – didn’t think till I’d left.

I’ve done a few of these before, and they’ve all been attached to the flush valve with a cable, and I could just lift the lid, unclip the cable, and replace the button… but if I can’t get the lid up, I can’t do anything.

I Googled this, and saw a YT video where a guy depressed one of the buttons, stuck a screwdriver in, and freed it, exposing a central flat-head screw which he undid to free the mechanism, but this one doesn't seem to be like that – just a thin plastic spindle sticking up from the centre, which you can still push to make it flush. I’ve seen other types now where you have to kind of unscrew the button assembly – is that the best thing to try next?

I’d be grateful if anybody could enlighten me… but I’m not going to get involved in replacing the flush valve if that’s necessary, so hopefully let me know what I’m dealing with!

Thanks :D

So many different makes to be able to advise properly, as per the others, probably unscrews, unless it’s a Roca, some need a plastic screw undoing.

Thanks guys - I will take a pic tomorrow. They were to send me one this evening, but youg people :mad::mad:

Even if I have to buy them a complete flush valve just to get a new button, that'll be a relief :ROFLMAO:

Okily dokily... thanks to you, I got it off - it just unscrews, as suggested. Some pics attached.

As I mentioned earlier, I don't want to tackle flush valve replacement - do you think a replacement button would be available?

Thanks again :D
