Caps and cap guns! We all had them "back then"
Happy days! :)

Now I see where you are all coming from, geriatric ward! I didn't think anyone on here was as old as I was. BTW, I firsts used it in 1963 I think:lol:

Yeah it's sad isn't it Mike. :) All us old scrotes "remembering when" :)

Had you used to get the single shot caps where you were? We did in the Midlands, they were round, and you got a little round box the same as the strip caps came in, full of them. I had one cap gun that was a single "shot" that took those. probably late 50s. I seem to remember they disappeared a bit later

I'd equate those 'single shot' caps with a Martini-Henry, whilst the rolls of caps were more like a Lee-Enfield.

Anyone old enough to remember those? (I hasten to add that I'm not.)

Yes, I remember the strips of caps, the ring of caps (think they might have been called super caps) and as mentioned the bomb that we would drop off of tall buildings and frighten the shyte out of people. I still have a cap gun somewhere, I might dig it out and have a game of cowboys & Indians outside a bank.

I'd join you, but you can guarantee that the wife will come out with the 'little boys never grow up' spiel.

At least in them days we got plenty of fresh air and exercise playing cowboys and Indians!

Remember the stones/hammers and nuts/bolts way of firing them off. The little bomb was red coloured if I remember correctly.
Making your own bow and arrows out of gardening canes and string from the chandlers!
What about catapaults? Or Catty's as we called them? Used to make our own out of an old bed spring and two strong lazzy bands with a bit of leather for a pouch.

No wonder we are not a manufacturing nation any more. Kids have got no imagination on how to make things that amuse them.

Did you ever make 'chuck arrers'?? they were about 15inch long pieces of garden sticks (not cane) but they were green and about 5mm thick. We cut a point at one end, cut a cross in the other end and split it down about 2 inch, used playing cards cut into flights, and tied the end up with twine. Then got a bit of string a bit longer than the 'arrer', put a knot in the end, attached the knot in the notch in the end, held the string and arrer at the front and ran and chucked it...... it would go 50yds or more... and stick in the ground.... awesome.... and would kill anyone it hit.... why did my dad let me make 'em?!!!

Ours were cane with a 2 inch nail in the end, still playing cards, i always used hearts. A shoelace was the chosen launcher, got about 100 yrds with them. EDIT I said 50yds at first.

Funnily enough, I imagined 100yds at first and then thought how much smaller i was then and changed it to 50 yds.... still incredibly dangerous though..

I used to pull the caps off with my thumb nail, it hurt  set em off wif your teef if you were good.

Well I've just bought a dozens reels of caps and a couple of cap bombs off Amazon for me and my youngest (he's 8, not 28 before you ask !!)
Gonna go back in time, but with my kid... can't wait !

We used to make those throwing arrows. Catapults and crude bows as well. Trollies as well (still got the scar on me knee)
Had anybody else used to make those "peg guns" from a piece of wood with a spring clothes peg attached to the edge near the one end, and several elastic bands attached to a nail at the other, a folded paper pellet was put in the elastic, and held in the peg. To fire, you just pressed the peg to release the pellet. Great fun and harmless, although we never thought about littering.

I had a cap operated spud gun too :D
The smell of caps is up there with Castrol "R"
