So I decided that I could do with a 4 way extension lead at the opposite end of the shed to most of the sockets.

I recognised this one at the car boot sale and thought "Duraplug is good make and it has the advantage of four decent screw fixing holes to mount it to the studwork.

So I paid my pound for it and brought it home and it was only then I noticed the "makers" name on it!

must be quite old then but all the sockets are nice and tight with only general discolouring of the plastic body.

Ancient! Rather you than me TBH. That said, at least you're making use of it and hopefully it will be OK.

Following your comments I opened it up and there is a tiny bit of wear on only one of the sockets, none of the spring pins are bent or damaged so I think I can be confident it will be OK

I have one of those that is branded 'RS'. The original maker was MK/Duraplug. Back in the day Duraplug was open to re-branding their product if there was enough volume - I have examples of the MK ToughPlug that are branded 'BBC' & 'BT' amongst others.

Woollies only went bump about 10 years ago, IIRC, so it may not be all that old, and anyway I don't suppose they made their own electrical kit, just put their name on it

They were rebranded by many bulk purchasers, I found their Rubber products available in Woolworths were likely to be branded as HERCULES.

The original manufacturers of the all rubber products were the Hafferrdon (total guess at the spelling)/Richborough Rubber Co, near Deal (I remember the horrible smell when heading to Sandwich beach as a small boy) and Margate. They took over (or some other association with) London Rubber Co, late 60's/early 70's and branded the electrical parts as Duraplug, I suspect the reason for the new name was something to do with another of their products;). I believe acquired by Tonto which had some Italian or Spanish connexion late 80's who also acquired MK around the same time. I've lost track after as I thought acquired by Honeywell (maybe mid 00's?) but others say MK went a different direction.

All of this is extracted from my failing brain and much of it may have landed in the rough. (except the links to the vile smell on the way to the seaside) pun intended:giggle:.
