Car charger with outdoor commando socket

It seems commando sockets are permitted. I have looked at some outdoor sockets

yes has an RCD, and it does say on the socket "suitable for electric vehicle charging" but it seems unlikely it will have PEN fault detection. As to if it needs it, we simply don't know.

I know my drive is steep in parts, and one can understand visitors to the front door touching the car. So must ensure the car is not live.

£50 for an outdoor socket does seem a bit steep when this

costs £25, since all in my house is RCBO protected then this

at £10.27 seems acquit. I am sure I can stick a label on it. This

will cost around £95, and this

around £51.65 once one starts to add up the cost of all the parts,

add another £274.95 for 32 amp cable, one starts to ask, is it worth it?

It is rather worrying, I see no reason why I should not fit a 32 amp commando socket with a TT supply at the bottom of my garden, but I have a drive both front and rear of my house, which is unusual.

For me, the problem would be exceeding the 60 amp supply to the house. If I go back a few days, I see a 7.5 kW load on the house, at 2 am, not a clue what when on at 2 am, but clearly if also charging a car, I would have exceeded the rating of my DNO fuse. And as I go further back I find a 9 kW load at 2:26 so it seems I really do need a charge which would reduce load, when the house load is high. What was on at that time of night I don't know, 3.8 kW would be going to my battery part of solar panel array system, but common to have washing machine etc also run overnight on the cheap rate.

But none of it answers the question about loss of PEN. I look at the number of visitors we get, postman, milkman, parcel delivery, without talking about friends, and will eventually these visitors need to wear PPE to visit private homes due to risk from EV's?

Well if you really want 2 outlets, fit a garo automatic change over switch. (Eg used for showers and or something else)
