car juddering at higher revs

Hi,

my car has started juddering at higher revs. It's mostly fine other than this, perhaps a little underpowered and the engine sounds like it's working a little harder than it ought to.

Could this be a problem with the fuel filter, the injection system or something else entirely?

it's a....

1999
rover 416i (1.6ltr injection)
