Hi There

You do indeed have a valid complaint, poor fitting.

1st Pic: Carpet has frayed when cut/cut short
2nd pic:Stringer isn't square, carpet is short, this step when fitted right WILL look wonky.
3rd pic: Carpet cut Short
4th pic: Carpet cut short/frayed
5th pic: carpet Frayed.

Basically it's poor fitting/bluntknife/lack of care.

Those areas all need replacing which is easy and simple to do as each step could be replaced individually if the rest is ok.

Go back to the shop/fitter, with the pics and they should be able to sort a remedial with wastage left over or they may need to order some extra carpet for the stairs (make sure they replace all the stairs if they can't get any more carpet from the same dye batch, the landings 'should' be ok)

As for the tidying up after themselves, that's is VERY normal in the fitting industry, the theory being the more time spent hoovering, the less time spent fitting, the less time spent earning £££. Charging more for extra time spent hovering means putting prices up etc. There is a theory also that whilst clearing up for themselves, any issues will become immedietly apparent rather than being discovered 'in-time' thus minimising issues discovered well after fitting. Also, most people will hoover their carpets after the fitters already have anyway, so why hoover twice?

Personally, I think fitters should always hoover up etc, and I expect it of my fitting teams, but genuinely, believe it or not, this seems the exception to the norm!
