Carpet Patching

Hello all! I'm renovating a spare bedroom for guests, and the carpet is in a bit of an unfortunate state


it was once a really beautiful thing, kind of still is under the dust, but i think its past its time and i do plan to replace it
unfortunately, that simply is not in the budget right now, so i'm looking for temporary alternatives

A as can be seen from the attached images, the carpet has significant damage. Theres two sections where a rectangular piece has been cut out of it. In one of those, the piece is still there, but the edges around the join have wornn down over time

in the second, the piece is long gone, and more importantly, its in an unfortunate position right in the doorway, so i can't simply cover it up with furniture


What can be done here? Is it possible/feasible to install little bits of another, similar carpet to fill these holes? How could such things be joined?
any other ideas to work around it?

might it even be possible to get an exact match? This carpet is at least 20 years old, maybe closer to 40, i doubt its still being manufactured, or how i could even find such a specific thing if it existed in a warehouse somewhere, but thoughts are welcome, perhaps there are websites or companies that specialise in this kind of matching?

i'd like to make it look presentable, and depending on how good it looks, this might be the solution for a few months to a year

whatever i'm going to do here, i'd ideally like to spend less than £50 on it, and even that is a bit of a tough stretch

might it even be possible to get an exact match?

As a temporary bodge you could cut out a matching piece from under the bed, where the hole won't show. Double-sided carpet tape can hold it down. The patch would be noticeable though, because it would have less wear and tear than the main carpet (unless you're constantly moving beds around the room). Just tell your guests not to move the bed!

If it's a small room, just go round the local carpet shops, and see what remnants they have left. Remnants/left over bits, too small for many rooms, are quite cheap.
