I'm about to replace my hall carpet. The underlay we took up was tredaire rubber. It still looked in great condition but as it was 18 years old I decided to buy new. John Lewis has something similar but its almost £10 a metre. The carpet I'm laying is a twist. What is now regarded as the best type of underlay? Also is it safe, as in not a cheap copy, to buy on line?

I asked my carpet fitter for a really good underlay, it one of those foam ones and 11mm thick. It feels lovely underfoot and I am sure it was about £60 for the 15sm roll. The one he used in my bedroom was a 10mm thickness and made by a brand called Cosi, that’s really good too.

Cosi 10mm is ok. Bit of a budget one but decent.
Have a look at ball an young connoisseur 10mm. Quality underlay.
