I posted this question in electrical and it was suggested I might usefully ask here as well.

I've been asked to add a 13 A floor socket (for a standard lamp & laptop without a trailing flex) to a room with carpet and 11mm underlay. I've no queries on the electrical wiring side, but I'm not sure which floor mounted hardware would be best. Its a suspended chipboard floor.

A domestic 2-gang flap-covered floor socket is wanted rather than the larger recessed box installation.

My question is how best to deal with the carpet. Anyone solved this one?

Use a plastic dry liner back box, since they are lipped.

The carpet edge then sits under the lip and becomes compressed when tightening the f/plate on to the back box. A little copydex, PVa or d/sided tape under the carpet also helps.

Thanks Chris,
Very helpful.
I'd wondered about the dry liner boxes from the point of view of strength -I should be OK as this will be in an area that isn't walked on.
