Carport Fireboard Reattachment

The house we bought in 2024 has a carport which serves no purpose as it isn't wide enough for a car to then get out and the garage is at the bottom of the carport. It is brick and steel and was added as an extension in 2005/2007. Above the carport is another bedroom and ensuite for one of the master bedrooms.

In the carport there are Fireboards on the 'ceiling' that are screwed in and then fire mastic around the edges. they have been screwed in but some of the screws have fallen out over time and it was noted on the survey report they need re-attaching. Only just getting around to this as we've had other things to do (plus a new baby) and I wondered what screws would be best. I've had a general look online but nothing is jumping out at me as being the same as the ones in there and I assume they would just be driven in through the board and into the material behind it. I've not taken one of the boards off for fear of not getting back on.

Any advice welcome.

Pink fireline plasterboard? If so, use bugle headed drywall screws. Rather worrying that any screws have “fallen out” which shouldn’t happen in a million years. Maybe post a pic to confirm

Normal countersunk wood screws will be fine, galvanised or passivated
You may need brass screw cups of the boards are soft.

Could you post some photos?

If it's outdoors I'd be thinking stainless screws - presumably the original ones have rusted through in 20 years, so any standard ones used now will need replacing about when you're organising your baby's wedding.

Pre-drill for stainless, as they're a little softer than normal. They cost more but are well worth it if you value your time and not having rust stains all over the place.

If you are able to, see if you can pull one down enough to see inside?
Look for the presence of insulation, because if there is none then you would benefit from removing them all, adding insulation then refitting.

Do you know what they screw into behind the boards? I would expect timber battens, but we can’t be sure. Could also be metal studs of some sort.

There don’t really seem to be a lot of screws… what do others think?

No idea. I don't think it is timber as when I tried (and failed) to screw it back up, it was having none of it. I did think about leaving it for now and taking them off in the summer and having a look (I want the lights changing too) and getting new ones put up. Thought if I can tidy them up myself, I'd like to.
