Does anyone know if it is possible to fit a section of plastic to a cast iron Waste pipe?

I need to break into the pipe lower down than where my current kitchen waste joins on.

I live in a 4 story block of flats and I'm on the 1st floor.

Will this effect my neighbours above/below?

Help appreciated.

If you live in a block of flats and they are leashold, or for that matter rented, then you would need permission to break into the drainpipe. You could end up with a hefty bill for renewing the changes you made and then carrying out the work you want done. I'd check with your leasholder/landlord first.

If you do go ahead you can get plastic to cast iron fitting from most good builder merchants, but check with your local planning for conservation area which can only use cast iron.
