Cavity Insulation

Hi,

I have had an etension put on my house and have insulated his very well. I am now concerned that the existing house will attract the warmth and thereby lose the efficiency that wil be achieved through the insulated extension. I have cavity walls in the "old" part of the house and have seen that the cavity has what I would descrbe as feathers/wool that is usually found in pillows. I would like to top this up as much as I can and since I am having the whole house plastered, I thought it may make sense to do ths from the inside.

Does this make sense and ccan you please advise on how I should proceed?

Can this be handled by a keen DIY'er and if not, how much am I looking at? I would estimate that we have two walls which are 4.5 x 8 and one wall which measures 4.5 x 6. This is in metres.

Line the external walls with thermal laminate plasterboard. e.g. Kingspan Kooltherm K17 or K18. A 50mm board will be a decent improvement on thermal performance. Of course thicker would be better but balance it with cost and space lost.

Thanks. I had considered your suggestion along with the idea of battening out the wall and filing in with kingspan before new boards are put up and finally skimmed. I want to avoid this as I don't want to go through the exercise of re-boarding and also losing space. I was hoping that I can achieve a good level of thermal insulation by beefing up my cavity. Thoughts?

No cavity wall insulation provider will 'top up' an already insulated cavity. The process necessarily needs space for the material to flow.
