i have a denon dcd-685 hifi cd player lately the sound on any cd i play is starting to break up and distort new or old. im assuming the lens is failing
as i took of lid and cleaned the lens with an ear bud, this made no difference should i try using some kind of fluid if so what chemical isopropyle alchohol ? or do ineed a new lens what would they cost roughly

While it could possibly be a failing laser assembly, it could be something else, such as the power supply for example.

Replacing the laser assembly is not really considered diy as you need a service manual to show the test points and a scope and to set up the FM envelope.

Unless you know what you are doing, and I mean no disrespect, it would probably be best to take it to a repair centre.

i successfully installed a new laser and it works fine, it was very easy
considering it was my first laser install.
