Hey everyone, first time poster. Was just wondering if anybody could give advice on ceilings. A simple one really, although I know there is no complete exact answer.

Can anyone tell me how common it is for asbestos to be present in ceilings that do NOT have Artex or a textured finish?

Any pointers on this would be fantastic

A lot of 1930's houses have white asbestos board ceilings on the ground floor, they are instantly recognizable with the wooden architrave that holds them in place giving you about 6 large rectangles on the ceiling, first floor they usually resort to lathe & plaster.

I've never heard of that before.

Do you have a reference and I'll bring it up with our training company and H&S officer who have never mentioned it

Oh, you found it on Google?

And "a lot" of 1930's built houses have that as the ground floor ceiling? Are those houses in the UK, or in an alternate universe?

One of my daughters friends in Bristol bought a 50's house with asbestos ceilings. She only found out when her husband drilled through one in the utility room.
Cost her a fortune for removal and had to throw away her Dyson and tumble dryer as well.

You buffoon, I got a reference for you on Google as you asked for one, in the road where I live I have bought two houses, both had asbestos ceilings, in fact the whole area has these ceilings as far as I know.

Thinking about it woody you really are a wart on the arz of humanity, I thought I was doing you a favour as you asked for a reference then because I get one off Google you try and ridicule me, have you got some sort of inferiority complex or something?

I've been assured by the council boffins down by Trinity Rd police station that it really is not that dangerous, it's the same sort of thing that the corrugated roofs on garages and a lot of S&V pipes are made from.

The thing is, I deal in facts and not relate everything to the houses I've bought, going to buy, thinking about buying, negotiating a discount on, selling for a profit, renting out etc etc

Your "a lot of houses" with asbestos ceilings seems to be one or two in a road in Bristol, and then when I asked for you to support your statement, you googled for a generic picture which had nothing to do with your comment. That is a fact.

Another fact or two is I don't take photo's of me renovating houses also even if I did, I would be incapable of downloading them onto a computer.

I just did a quick search using the search button on this page, it returned 332 post on the DIYnot forum, so I think this is not just my street in Bristol.

Why do you persist in trying to belittle everything I say?

Have you got some sort of personality complex?

Were you a mod in the 60s? Did I beat the carp out of you?

Correcting is not belittling. If you don't know about asbestos, then best just STFU

I'm so sorry, I bow to your superior knowledge, how many asbestos ceilings did you say you have removed?
