I am redecorating my kitchen ceiling and was wondering if there is a good way of covering up obvious lines where the plasterboard sections meet. The house is a semi built around 1937. The ceiling is sound but the surface is poor with some old flaking paint under the paper which I have just removed.

You could try Polycell ceiling paint. You paint it into the cracks first then a couple of coats with a roller like normal emulsion. It dries like a rubber sheet, really flexible.

Thanks, that sounds like a possible solution, I will check it out at B&Q.
