I've just moved into a new property which has a ceiling fan in the main bedroom. Problem I have is that the ceiling fan does not switch off via the switch on the bedroom wall. It can only be switched on and off from one of those pull down switches hanging from the bottom of the fan. I've been up into the loft and worked out how it's been wired up, but I'm not sure how to resolve. In order to explain better how the fan has been wired up I drew up a diagram:

Does anyone have any ideas what's wrong and how it can be resolved?

think about it. you have a permanent live and neutrla to the fan. and you expect it to just switch off? more like a bang if the switch was actually wired the right way.

So how should it be wired up?

Just as if it were a light. See the very last diagram in the For Reference topic..
