Ceiling problems

I have a relatively new build house approx 8 y-o,and am planning to redecorate a few rooms.

On the ceilings there are nail marks,depressions where the plasterboard was nailed up,and they are showing through.

If I use a proprietary filler as I have done in previous house's the filler shows through the paint,I tried using a coving primer before,it made no difference.

So this time I thought I would ask the experts.......

No experts around here matey....so you'l have to put up with us!

There could be a few reasons why the fliier is 'showing through'

1, Its 'flashing'...that means you have only given it on coat, which has been absorbed by the filler leaving a patch like mark....remedy....two coats of paint.

2, You have sanded the filler flat and then touched it up with a brush, which leaves a different finish...remedy use a radiator roller to touch up with to help create some texture.

3, Same thing really.....when you sand the ceiling you flatten the existing coating out...same remedy

If you have a lot of filling of this nature to do I would go for lining the ceiling afterwards to create a uniform finish.
