Ceiling Rose Disaster - Please Help

Darkness, Nijinski001 & crafty1289 thanks a million for your assistance - my problem is now solved and my wife is now talking to me again!

However, there was one strange thing which I hope someone can explain.

Whilst my downstairs lighting circuit (protected by 6A MCB) was disconnected I had no central heating (it's a gas boiler but obviously an electric pump/control system) - so some part of this system must have been wired off this lighting circuit in some way.

This strikes me as being odd. Is it usual, and is it anything I should be worried about?

Not odd, but not usual either. Proper way would be to have it on it's own circuit, but taking a feed (and with a FCU to be totally correct) off the lighting circuit isn't going to burn your house down so nothing to worry about.
