cental heating programmer overheating

my central heating programmer,drayton lp522,overheated and melted at the top,i thought it was a fault in the programmer,i bought a new one the same model,so that i could fit it straight onto the existing wall plate but it is doing the same,i know if i leave it on too long it will melt to.has anyone any idea what is causing this.please help as we are freezing up here in scotland.

the wiring needs looking at. l would not use it until you get it checked by an electrician. it could start a fire
 
Any fuses or trips tripping when overheating?

Could just be loose terminals on the back plate :confused:
