We have a combination boiler, the central heating is working fine, but the water struggles to get hot and doesnot maintain heat when tap is running. This has only happened in the last week, we have not bled the radiators. We tried turning the temperature up on the water, but this has made the problem worse.

If when using hot water the boiler keeps switching on and off then there is a strong likelihood that the secondary heat exchanger is coated with sludge on the primary circuit side of exchanger, and that means a new secondary heat exchanger and get a magnaclene fitted to stop it happening again. It MIGHT be the divertor valve but I doubt it.javascript:emoticon('')
