Can anybody tell me what measurement i should have for my open vent pipe into the f&e (central heating not hot water storage). i have hot water discharging and this pipe is very low.

Thanks

Generally, the minimum is considered 450, but a bit more wouldn't hurt.

Apart from that, chances are that the problem is not lack of height, but sludge in the system, faulty pump replacement, or a design fault in the piping.

mmmm. vent barely makes it over top of cistern and the end is in the water. Was thinking of reducing pump speed as well. Any other suggestions?

Just over the top is no good. Cut the bend off, and stick a metre or so of straight 22mm in; your can solder or use compression joints.

You can try setting the pump lower, but you will have to keep an eye on the boiler to make sure lowest setting will shift all the heat.

A fault in the system.

A pic or two, or a drawing showing the pump, cold feed, open vent positions.

Thanks for replys will try to extend the vent first. Pump positioning is ok and system heats up real quick so i think sludge not a big problem.

Hmmm... sounds like a design fault. The best layout I've found is
Boiler->Vent->Closely followed by Cold Fill->Motorised Valves->Rads&H/W->Returns to Boiler. If you put an air disperser on the vent you'll also have no problems with air in the system.
The fatal configuration is putting the vent after the pump

Oh yeah - good point. Sorry about that should have read -

Boiler->Vent->Closely followed by Cold Fill->PUMP->Motorised Valve(s)->Rads&H/W->Returns to Boiler

So many bits these modern systems.... hard to remember at my age...
