central heating problem

hello all, new to this ,my field is electrics and absolutely hate water.anyway i have cold radiators downstairs and hot upstairs.looking on this forum that is suggested as being a pump problem.looked inside inspection hole on pump and it is turning although what i would say was slowly.can anybody advise does a pump either turn and work ok ,or can it still be turning but not working.
could my problem be an airlock instead?

Pump probably has 3 speeds - try others. Slowest speed should be over 1000rpm, highest over 2000. Sounds knack'd, doesn't it!?

Make sure your rad valves downstairs are open
Providing you only have one heating zone;

then,
with heating on
shut all the upstairs rads (when hot) working back from furthest away from boiler
then do the same with the downstairs
leaving the downstairs one closest to the boiler open

If you have seperate heating zones (up and down)
try manually opening the zone valve.

hi, have moved the pump up from 2 to 3 speed and all valves open on downstairs rads.

It can turn and not work if the impellor has come adrift............the syptoms af such are pretty much what your describing.

pump is 13 years old now and after having an extension am now running 14 rads of this 15/50 selectric pump.was thinking of replacing with a similar 15/60.would you recommend this.

No another 15/50 will be fine as long as your house itsnt too tall of course.
