Whenever I use the heating, it takes a while to get the hot water to heat. When I press water constant, the heating comes on for ages. I have to keep turning it on and off and hope for the water to come on without knowing when it will. This usually happens after I haven't used the heating for a while or when I stop using the heating after a while. Any ideas of what I can do would be very much appreciated!!!

Reading this would be a good start

My crystal balls says that there could be a diverter valve problem.
If it has a model number wrote on it then give us that info too.

As stated above, I have a Potterton Profile and Switchmaster 850. Apologies for omitting the info earlier, had been up until 2AM, and have to leave for work in minutes; terrible how much we rely on things that are prone to letting us down huh???

As before, your expertise would be very much appreciated.

3 things I'd be checking first

Diverter valve function I would guess it could be sticking

That there are no loose wires in your programmer / wiring box, perhaps faulty programmer

that the air vent near your cylinder is bled of air

You didn't come back with any info about the diverter valve!
