Central heating thermostat - is this wiring correct?

Hello,

I'm soon going to be redecorating the front room, so so went to remove a fascia plate from our Google Nest thermostat and noticed something odd with the cabling. This was installed by an electrician about 3 years ago

The red and blue cables are terminated into T1 and T2, but the yellow and the earth are just folded back and placed within the wall (the ends are not terminated or taped in anyway).

Does this seem ok? I'm wondering whether the earth and yellow were required in the previous thermostat but are not required for the Google nest thermostat, so have just been left loose in the wall. It just doesn't sit right with me that the ends are just exposed.

No, as you say terminate them safely so that they cannot touch anything or each other.

It's not right. It doesn't matter why.

So if I just pop a wago clip on the end of each one, that will be suitable?

The CPC(earth wire) should be connected at the other end.

The yellow wire should also be terminated safely at the other end - or it could be doubled-up with the red or blue wire.

Yes. The wires to the thermostat are only 12 volts, can carry data and supply, this is why I fitted the useless Nest Gen 3, as it only needs two wires, and for British rules the earth wire, but the earth wire does not connect to the thermostat.
