Central Heating Woes! Fernox and some good advice needed!

I thought you meant a funeral car then realised you meant an escort to the luny bin!

Couldn't quite work out what you meant by the leather jacket and presume you mean a straight jacket?

My partner is Austrian and they are called 'I love myself' jackets in Austria. What's known as a Zwangsjacke! Although I have a bad habit of mis-pronouncing it and saying, "Schwanzjacke". They sound similar if you're not Austrian but the latter means "Condom". Either way, they're both tight.

NHS Direct said I am alright and can sleep soundly in my bed tonight even with the boiler running. Might nip and get a CO detector from B&Q and slap it next to the boiler and check it before I go to bed.

Wow when did NHS Direct become Dial-An-RGI!? Seriously, how do they know it's safe to leave your boiler running? You may sleep very very soundly indeed...

Someone has gone fishing and getting the bites he was after, just happens to be boiler people say is most dangerous, Happens to mention he took front off with boiler on BUT cant remember why he took case off. Then mentions changing seals.

Hi goldie/softas have they blocked your other logins

WHAT?

I can't quite believe frank honesty and a strange sense of humour I.e. Writing Tongue-in-cheek because I been a right idiot can translate into someone thinking I am someone I am not!

Don't wish to be rude but if you have nothing constructive to add don't bother!!

My ID is my name so if anything should happen to me and my family because of what I have done today and you read it n the newspapers then you'll be feeling a bit of an ass.

Bingobongo. I know NHS Direct aren't RGI people and I know you're joking but I was concerned that I had suffered CO poisoning and didn't understand how it reacts with the body hours later.

Spoke with plumber mate and he doesn't even want to touch the boiler let alone service it. He told me how to check for leaks with a match, sorry BingoBongo. I daren't even do it. I hate the smell of matches and I probably will burn the kitchen down.

The real bummer Is the spindle on the old pump now seems to spin freely. Why would that be? It wouldn't move last night when it was in-situ!!

should I really turn the boiler off and get it checked? I do know how to tighten 4 screws or am I missing the point somewhere?

Will post tomorrow so you all know I survived. Hop

if you are serious then yes turn it off and get it checked asap

there maybe confusion as there are trolls that surf this site and change their names and cause bother.

the confusion may have arisen with the fact your boiler is known to be very unsafe due to the case and seals.I was refering also to a lit match but wouldnt recomend it to you. Please turn it off and get it checked.Leave it at that.

SAY NO TO TROLLS

CO poisoning has a progressive effect.

A mild exposure causes an odd feeling of nausea without feeling tired and withoug the brain processes being affected.

A more severe exposure starts to cause nausea and drowsyness with a feeling of lack of energy.

I seem to react within minutes but because I know exactly what the cause is I also know how to get myself away from the problem. I take many deep breaths in fresh air but it does not clear the head and can take a couple of hours to clear but when it does its quite sudden.

The danger occurs when you dont realise the cause and stay exposed to CO as within a short time you become unable to get away. Then you die.

Are you saying the Netaheat was unsafe fom when they first came out? Are there any places I can find good reference sources to substantiate that comment. The reason I ask is because I have lived in this house many years and swear blind my memory has gotten worse. I originally thought it was the lead water pipe until I realised that the lead pipe is actually gas supply. Apparently this is illegal but I have never gotten around to paying for this to be replaced and these days I understand that they now have to be located externally as a neighbour had theirs done and it looks an eyesore. Call me old fashioned!

Approx. How much should I expect to pay an RGI to inspect boiler and check it still confirms to original specifications? My mate was telling me about the seals earlier and said he wouldn't commit and that he wouldn't to be the one to say to me that it needs decommissioning.

Am I being daft if I cling onto this boiler because it has lasted so long. My mum's boiler is atrocious. It's Worcester Bisch and needs parts replacing every year or two. What's a good reliable make these days?

Thanks to all for their perseverance to date.

Yes the name is Widdowson but I am not related to the plumber in Nottingham. Perhaps I could bluff him though and get a cheap rate!!

The netaheat is perfectly safe if its operated correctly. that means being serviced regularly by an RGI who will be checking the seals.

Most service a boiler for about £55. They say Namsag does it for a couple of pints!

You might as well keep it until it goes wrong but we all recommend you have it checked by an RGI to ensure the case seal is not leaking.

Find it hard/ nay impossible to believe NHS direct would say you're safe from CO poisioning in a telephone conversation.... how can they tell your blood carboxyhaemaglobin levels?
They can't even diagnose swine flu accurately over the phone and that is far more symptomatic than CO poisoning.

If you rang gas emergency service they certainly wouldnt say you're probably ok and take the precautionary side and have it disconnected until tested by an RGI.

As said, these boilers are perfectly safe if checked and serviced by a competent person who is familar with the safety checks associated with these type of appliances.

Who says that then Agile ?? in the CC well i have not seen it in there.
Besides it does not matter what i charge at least it would be getting done by a fully registered and legal engineer , can you say that ?? can you.

And i make more than enough money from my name without having to tout for work on the internet as you do everyday, funny i thought your great name would have them flocking to you.
I wonder why that isnt happening
