Hi all, for purposes of certification, would a new (additional) consumer unit count as a new installation or an addition to an existing installation. Eqipotential bonding is already in place and sufficient.

Many thanks.

P.S. total newbie to certification

If you mean a replacement CU then it is an alteration.

If it is an additional CU, i.e. for an extention, then addition.

Thanks, its in an office which is basically the size of two large living rooms separated by a short hallway. They are refurbishing the office in two stages and are wanting a new consumer unit in the new half, leaving the existing installation in place in the old half.

I was more confused whether this would count as a "new" installation

Many thanks

Yes addition, but a full Electrical Installation Certificate is required.
It does not count as minor works, you have new circuits on that new consumer unit.
