CH not working, Boiler/Pump/Valve to blame!?

I have...

Baxi Solo Gas Boiler
Backer 3kw HW Cylinder (+Immersion heater)
Grundfos Selectric 15/50 Pump
Myson Aerjec Aerator
ElectroMechanical Timer/Selector
3-way Honeywell Valve (Makes me Y-plan, right?)
Thermostatic valves on radiators
NO ROOMSTAT

Last week, the CH stopped working after 3 yrs of fine service, i increased the stat on the Baxi - i can hear a click (like it should then fire up) but nothing usually happens. Occasionally it DOES fire up, but only for 5-10 mins, so is this just the HW circuit? When this happens the upstairs rads get really hot, but nothing downstairs.

I can feel the pump vibrating when the boiler fires, but am slightly worried it might be blocked, though the upstairs hot rads seem to indicate that isn't the case.

I've also tried setting the valve to "MAIN OPEN" in the hope that that will do something, but to no avail. All i know about CH is what i've read on the net in the last few days, but i can't really afford to get someone in, so any help would be greatly appreciated by me, my fiancee and the cat!

Any info, pics, whatever that might help you diagnose, dont hesitate to ask.

I have read your post a couple of times and I cant say for certain but it seems to point to the Diverter valve or 3 way valve as you put it.
If its a V4073a then the orange wire should become live when you turn it to CH and then the boiler should light. If the boiler doesn't light when this is live post back and give the model or GC number of the boiler.

It was the motor of the valve - replaced and working, lovely hot house! Thanks for your help!
