i am sorry if this topic has been covered before but

i have a 16 year old Potterton gas fired boiler (sorry i don't really know alot more about it than that), its being replaced in the new year but we need to limp it through for another few months however

in the recent cold weather (it did it last winter also but has been fine when the temperature goes up a little) when the CH comes on either on timer or manually it will not fire correctly and the thermostat clicks on an off constantly, with the boiler firing up and turning off over and over kind of annoying at 6 in the morning

the only way to stop it seems to be to get the system warm by turning on the HW for half hour or so and then it will eventually fire for CH.

any help would be great thanks

Sounds like an external control problem if the boiler always works ok for HW.

Anything that is contolling the on/off of your ch, be it a room stat, programmer or zone valve.

reopening an old topic because my boiler is still doing this

I have replaced the thermostat

additionally when the hot water is on, for some reason it also heats the radiators, i am not sure if these issues are related

it only seems to happen when the weather is cold, its driving me mad

sounds like the motorised valve is sticking.

find the grey or silver box (probably in the airing cupboard) with 3 pipes in the shape of a "T" on the end of it is a lever (sometimes marked Auto and Manual) move this right over to Manual and let go, it should wind back to Auto if it doesn't then its kapput! if does then repeat this a few times to free up the ball inside.
then see if it runs better.

I have tried fiddling with this and the little lever jsut moves up and down freely and doesnt wind back, so i guess thats broken

would this cause my other issues with the boiler not firing in cold weather?
