Hi all, we currently have an old low power Vent Axia extractor fan with main 240 cable going into transformer and coming out as 24 volts to power fan. To change over to the new 240 volt fan, is it a case of simply removing the transformer and using the existing wiring into the new fan. Both operate with switched live from toilet light switch.

TIA

Yep, remove the transformer and wire up in accordance with new fans manufacturers instructions.

Just remember that the 230 v cable needs a cpc in it, but not connected to the new fan

Hold your horses.
If the old (and new) fans are timer fans then you may find that there is a 3-wire connection (plus earth) to the mains side of the transformer, the 24v connection to the fan may only be 2-wire.
The mains timer fan will need three wires plus earth, so you may need to run new cable to the new fan, either from origin or by adding to the existing connections at the tranny.

Thanks all. I’ll need to double check mains connection into the transformer. The existing connection out to the old fan is 3 wires, black, brown and grey.

Managed to find the old fitting instructions diagram in a drawer!

Now you need to check what cable is actually fitted between the transformer and the fan

you will need 3C core and CPC

Thanks for the advice. These are the cables from the transformer to the old extractor.

That cable is suitable for the new 230v fan. There should be an earth conductor in that cable too!
Make sure that you note which colour wires are on what L,N and S terminals on the old transformer.
Connect the cables together, using a suitable cable connector - including the earth wire!

PS, where's the fan duct, I only see insulation in your pic?
