Quick question - I want to upgrade my eurolocks, have been reading and the ABS Avocet locks seem just the ticket. A 30mm lock is what I have now and this protrudes by about 4-5 mm. However I note they do a 30mm lock which would replace it but this does not conform to the BSI 3* rating whilst the 35mm external size does.

Do I get the 30, or just go for the 35mm external size accepting that it will protrude more than aesthetically pleasing? I presume the antisnap nature of this lock means the protrusion is less important from the safety of the lock aspect?

All advice appreciated.

I think we have 4 or 5 of these at work going cheap. They retail at like £50 each I think they wanted £20 a piece. Have you bought them yet?

Ultron are good locks too maybe they do a size that would be better for you

Mila make a handle with a shroud that covers the lock (prosecure). I fitted these to all my external doors and they have space inside to take a longer lock that standard.

Might be worth looking in to these if you need to gain a few mm

Even the 30mm is still a very good lock -better than what you have, presumably. I would go with the 30mm.

I have the ABS Avocet locks and found that you can buy 'keyed alike' matching locks and have the same key for all your doors.
Useful, and also cheaper if you need a couple of spare keys for family members, as each keyed alike barrel comes with several spare keys(I think 3 for each lock) and as the keys are pretty expensive to get duplicated, this is a great saving.

Recently had an abs key fail to open my door, the magnet in the key had lost it magnetic properties.:censored:

Yeah we have these locks and they are great keyed alike, but the magnet ruined all our gift cards, loyalty cards, etc.
We got the short one without the full rating for the conservatory, but I think generally people won't be picking these, most breakings I can't imagine involve trying all the combinations!

Another one here with cards ruined by the magnet, its just something to be aware of when the keys are in your pocket, its the magnetic brown strip that the magnet on the key spoils, but the chip on the card still works its just the magnetic strip is when the hole in the wall cash machine needs.
I also have had one of these locks fail on me and lock me out, it was getting increasingly difficult to remove the key so I puffed in a little graphite lube which cured that problem for a couple of days, but then the front fell off - not the sacrificial snap off but the part where your key goes in the slot, then a few of the pins fell out and the key wouldn't go all the way in, until I bumped it and then the key slid all the way in I could bump it because the magnet pin had fallen out.
I contacted Avocet to tell them and they did not bother replying.
