I have several of these. I fitted a new one a few days ago. It's on mains supply so I fitted the higher pressure flow restrictor (I haven't got a presssure guage). It is connected via a braided flexible tap connector. It is one of the later ones with a "inverted cup" float open at the bottom rather than the sealed "can" float I have used before. The cup is full of air.

I now goes "brrrrt" as it reaches the moment to shut itself.

It didn't on the day I fitted and tested it.

Anyone know why and how to cure it?

Methinks the braided tap conn may be the cause of the problem. Too much flexiblilty.

Hate them things - having seen a couple of new ones burst. I would not trust them on mains water pressure.

I have had this happen john but I cannae remember for the life of me what I did to cure it

at a guess I would say that the pressure needs to be reduced further

Well, it sounds like it's not shutting off cleanly, so either the seat is uneven, as can be the case if it's worn or partly obscured by a fragment of scale or grit, or the pressure is too high.

I'm not a huge fan of valves of the Torbeck ilk - give me a straightforward Chem and D washer any day.

Done it (I think).

The filter was dirty.

It was new this week so shouldn't be worn.

I suppose I shall have to check the filters on the others now :(

no :(

After clearing the clogged filter I tried it out a few times and it was silent.,

This morning it was worse... definite water hammer lasting 10 seconds or so.

or, if the problem is really bad, then:

He means a DELCHEM washer.
I very much don't mean that.

Whilst I did abbreviate Delchem to Chem, the D washer is widely used in many float valves, not just in 'Chems.

OK, we seem to have entered some weird realm wherein you tell me what I meant, rather than asking and understanding what I meant, so I'm gonna have to leave you to it.
