Mrs Bod slipped on the stairs before Christmas and broke her Fibula. So I think it wise for me to do something like this.Painting it would be cheaper as Johnny said, i took up my carpet last year, and used non slip stair treads from Amazon because the house Rabbit kept slipping on the painted tread, make sure you prep the stairs well before painting.

A stair runner is carpet which runs up the middle of the stairs (with a gap of about 3" either side).
Its not what I want reallyThey are however often more expensive than regular carpet because the edges need to be stitched.
Given that you have dogs, I would not recommend LVT. They are likely to slip when coming down the steps.
@Charlie George 's suggestion would make sense, but... with the caveat that prepping and painting the gaps on the treads and risers will be very time consuming.
Im a rubbish painter but will do this myself, knowing how important prep is to the finish. As a decorator, I would probably quote 3 to 4 days to paint the strings, risers and partial treads. As I said, a lot of prep is required.
I wont skimp but dont want to go stair runner money.Personally, I like stair runners, but you asked about cheaper options.
