Several years ago whilst having new central heating installed we had a back boiler removed from behind our surface mounted gas fire. A couple of year ago we had a new gas fire fitted inside the fireplace (similar style to a log burner). Since then, whenever we get heavy rain we can hear raindrops dropping down onto the metal plate above the fire and during strong wind the sound of the wind in the fireplace almost drowns out the TV. I’m sure our chimney doesn’t have a cowl so was wondering if having would would solve the problems, and if so which type I should get.
