chimney pots

hi,
my chimney breast has now been removed up to loft where it is supported on steel.
What should I do now with the chimney pots ?
should I remove and cement over or fit one of those clay things I have seen fitted ? I've seen two types, one with holes and one with what looks like a half pipe fixed.
any advice please.

Being terracotta they're heavy enough to stay in place without the need for mortar. The bonnet type you also mention can allow the dicks in though the sides which is why I went for the ones with holes ... I've lots of Jackdaws here and they love to nest in chimneys!

Retain the pots and fit vented terminals.

Do the vented terminals have to be sealed to the pot with a mastic or anything to make them watertight ?
